How We Met

How We Met
August 29, 2010

Our story began 8 years ago. I had just turned17 and he was 18 years old. I lived in California, and he was from Washington. Not "Washington DC", but the "State of Washington". I never realized how bad at Geography I was until I met Eric.  Like, who knew there was still another little state above Oregon before you got up to Canada?
Eric and I met online through "Myspace" early in 2010.
(Looking back, that was such a gutsy move!🙊lol)
We found each other talking everyday, and simply became really great long distance friends. As time passed, I started developing a crush for him. I never in a million years thought I'd ever get to see him due to the distance between us, and that my feelings and our friendship would eventually fade. But there was something different about Eric, that I just couldn't get him off my mind. As summer was coming to an end, one day he told me, “ Hey Tita,(nickname my family calls me) don’t you live in San Jose? I’m actually going to visit some family down there, we should hang out!”

... YUP! There was no way that was gunna happen …
I mean, I really would of loved to hang out with him, but my parents were strict! I grew up in a pretty strict house-hold and I knew there was no way they were going to let me “hang out” with this boy I’ve never met in person. However, my parents were aware of our friendship. I had always mentioned Eric to them early on in our friendship, and they even got to chat with him on the phone a few times. So when I asked for permission to hang out with Eric, as the good parents that they are, they said “NO”.
No, but he was more than welcome to come and visit me at my house since they would be home as well.
Eric came to see me the afternoon of Sunday, August 29, 2010. We met for the first time in person. He also got to meet my parents, and crazy siblings as well. It may sound funny, but we both felt as if we had met before. We had built such a great friendship online and talked almost everyday that our first time talking in person felt so natural, and so right.
Eric and I sat on my childhood home’s front porch bench that day, where we had our very first date, talked for hours, and officially became boyfriend and girlfriend. Despite the distance between us, we were going to find a way to work it out.

And so we did. After Eric left back to Washington, we talked EVERY DAY. We were in a long distance relationship for 2 years. Communication, Patience, Trust, Commitment, and Respect were KEY!
Since I was still in school, Eric came to visit me 4 more times during our LDR. We were young and in love, and spent every minute that we had together. During his stay we loved spending time in San Francisco, Santa Cruz Beach, and my favorite... The California Rodeo Salinas. It was at the that Rodeo on July of 2012 that Eric gave me my ring, and told me he wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. Eric spoke with my father of our plans to start our life together and be married. In order to do so, one of us had to make the big move. On December 25th 2012, my parents gave me their blessings and I took my one way flight to Washington.
